Hospice and Palliative Care

The World Health Organization defines Palliative Care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual.
The common understanding of Hospice is a type of care that focuses on the palliation of a terminally ill or seriously ill patient's symptoms. These symptoms can be physical, emotional, or psychosocial in nature. Most believe the model of care focuses on relieving symptoms and supporting patients with a life expectancy of six months or less and it usually involves an interdisciplinary approach to provide medical care, pain management and emotional and spiritual support. The focus in Hospice care is bringing comfort, self-respect, and tranquility to people in the final year of life.
These are the concerns and parameters that I intend to blog about.
   Welcome to my blog!
